LC will observe Earth Day with a host of activities

Laredo College Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Science Center is once again pulling out all the stops for its Earth Day celebration this year.

The LBVESC will be offering free, family-friendly activities to the community on Friday, April 22, in honor of the 52nd anniversary of Earth Day. This annual celebration highlights environmental stewardship and conservation efforts to foster a more sustainable world.

The center will be closed Friday morning and will open its doors at 4 p.m. to kick off the festivities. Evening events will include information booths, a night hike, a guided tour of the center and an exclusive film screening.

Among the local environmental and community organizations that will join in the celebration will be the Rio Grande International Study Center, the City of Laredo Department of Environmental Services, Keep Laredo Beautiful, For the Love of Pets, Girl Scouts, Paisanos, Aimee’s Sno-Ball and Canelas.

Several LC departments will also be on hand to provide information and answer questions regarding the college’s award-winning, high-profile academic and workforce programs.

This LC Office of Student Life has partnered with the Laredo Film Society to screen The Lorax, a classic animated film with themes of environmental conservation. RGISC Executive Director, Tricia Cortez, will make a brief presentation on the importance of ecological conservation prior to the screening.

Admission is free and open to the public. Snacks will be sold and only cash will be accepted. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own tables, chairs, and blankets to enjoy the film outside.
